My own theory about why the caterpillars form a hard coating and hang off the top of the lid: they are escaping the SKANKNESS THAT IS THE BOTTOM OF THEIR CUPHOUSE WHICH CONSISTS OF DISCARDED FOOD, THEIR OWN FECES AND THEIR HALF-FORMED FELLOW CRITTERS THAT DIDN'T QUITE MAKE IT TO FULL SIZE. I double dog dare someone to take a swig of that rankness.
